Urban spaces define the appeal of cities and urban areas, but face diverse challenges: they are living spaces, but also locations for commerce, communication, recreation and meeting.
For Eurohypo, the design of public spaces in cities is an important concern. As a leading bank for property and public sector finance, we want to make a contribution to secure and advance the quality of life and economic activity based on sustainable urban development. Equal emphasis is placed on both buildings and the spaces in between.
One element of our support is the presentation of the International Urban Landscape Award (IULA). The IULA 2006 was awarded to Riemer Park in Munich as a successful example of open space design in a new urban area. The International Urban Landscape Award 2007 went to Parc Central de Nou Barris in Barcelona, a new park in a dense housing area on the periphery, which takes on important social functions.
IULA 2009 is seeking exemplary urban design projects for sustainable development. These are sustainable built components of the city that are planned in the context of open spaces and the urban fabric. Only projects from Germany and the United Kingdom are invited this year.
The award is proof of Eurohypo’s commitment to being a responsible ‘corporate citizen’ and we are delighted to be supported by the magazine Topos – The International Review of Landscape Architecture and Urban Design.
